Arizona Football Recruiting Class of 2023 Assessment

2023 recruiting is going pretty well for Arizona Football, and with 16 commitments already, we take a look at who the Wildcats have recruited.

It’s already July and Arizona Football has been very active in recruiting, adding 16 commitments to the recruiting class of 2023 so far.

Heading into this offseason, it was clear the Wildcats needed to continue adding depth and talent, especially on defense.

And so far, 12 of the Wildcats’ commitments have come on the defensive side of the ball, arguably highlighted by the additions of Carter Stoutmire, Solomon Davis, Canyon Moses and Lucas Conti, among others.

As it stands, the Wildcats have the No. 29 overall class nationally and the No. 3 overall class in the Pac-12. It’s certainly been a good start so far, especially since the Wildcats are coming off a year in which they signed one of the best classes in the conference.

Over the next few weeks, it should be interesting to see how this class forms and who else is added.

With that said, here’s who Arizona Football has signed up for for 2023 so far.

Brayden Dorman ★★★★

Strategist, Vista Ridge High School – Colorado Springs, CO

Height: 6’4.5″ Weight: 206lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.9029
National Comp: 306
Pos QB: 15
St-CO: 2
|***Joined 02/22/2022

The crown jewel of the class, Brayden Dorman is a tall and prototypical pocket quarterback who should fit in well with Jedd Fisch’s extended offensive scheme. He can survey the terrain well and has good arm strength that will only improve as he adds more size and strength.

Brayden is a quarterback of the future for the Wildcats and his addition helps strengthen and complete that class.

Carter Stoutmire ★★★

Cornerback, Prestonwood Christian High School – Plano, TX

Height: 5’11” Weight: 170lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8726
National Comp: 633
BC Pos: 62
St-TX: 111
|***Joined 07/06/2022

A two-sport athlete, Carter Stoutmire has a deceptively long frame, is very fluid, reads the ball well and reacts. Carter plays fast and physically, and with the Wildcats needing more depth in the secondary, it’s a good thing the Cats have remained aggressive in this recruiting!

Solomon Davis ★★★

Athlete, Charter Oak High School – Covina, CA

Height: 6’0″ Weight: 183lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8726
National Comp: 633
Credit card pos: 55
St-CA: 51
|***Joined 06/15/2022

Arizona landed an athlete in Solomon Davis. A kid who probably projects himself as a secondary player for the Wildcats. He’s a solid defensive player with great length, size and athleticism for a corner, and his addition will help bolster the Wildcats’ defensive secondary.

Moses Canyon ★★★

Cornerback, Midland Legacy High School – Midland, TX

Height: 5’9″ Weight: 180lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8719
National Comp: 656
Credit card pos: 64
St-TX: 115
|***Joined 01/02/2022

Canyon Moses was the Wildcats’ first commitment of 2023, and he’s a talented kid with great speed, good footwork and fluid hips. Even with his build he doesn’t shy away from contact as he likes to play physically, and even with his size I could very well see him moving to safety and being just as effective.

Arians Parish ★★★

Security, Katy High School – Katy, TX

Height: 5’11” Weight: 170lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8659
National Comp: 777
S-Position: 63
St-TX: 146
|***Joined 06/10/2022

Arian Parish is a child with a good-sized frame that will continue to fill out. Aligned primarily to safety, he is an intelligent, instinctive and aggressive player. He has great balance and body control in cover, and he packs a hell of a punch too, not afraid of contact.

He reads plays well and reacts well, and he also has great agility and flexibility, which allows him to jump into football to make a play.

Lucas Conti ★★★

defensive lineman, Centennial High School – Corona, CA

Height: 6’5″ Weight: 260lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8650
Natl Comp: 811
Pos DL: 96
St-CA: 65
|***Joined 06/05/2022

One of Arizona’s highest-rated commitments in the class, Lucas Conti plans to potentially be a rusher for the Cats. Usually lined up in a three or five technique along the defensive line. He has a large size and strength and has the ability to fill himself. Conti is playing fast, physically and with a bit of a mean streak that the Wildcats could desperately use.

Gavin Hunter ★★★

Athlete, Mililani High School – Mililani, HI

Height: 6’2″ Weight: 190lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8597
National Comp: 923
HUD Position: 84
St-HI: 5
|***Joined 08/06/2022

Entering Gavin Hunter is a two-way player at Mililani High School in Hawaii; however, with his size, it’s more likely he’ll also play safety for the Cats, which the Wildcats are quickly accumulating.

Coming in, he reads the ball well and reacts well, he’s quick and recovers well in cover, and he packs a bit of punch with his shots. Overall, he should be another solid addition to the Cats defensive secondary.

Brandon Johnson ★★★

Come back, Highland High School – Palmdale, CA

Height: 5’9″ Weight: 185lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8589
Nat Comp: 940
BR Pos: 65
St-CA: 80
|***Joined 06/14/2022

Brandon Johnson is a physically gifted player who can score every time he touches the ball. He’s quick and elusive and runs well, he doesn’t shy away from contact either, running with physicality between tackles if he needs to.

Arizona is already loaded with running backs; however, he is an exploding kid on the recruiting scene and the Wildcats were smart to bring him in to add more depth and talent.

Justin Johnson ★★★

Security, Inglewood High School – Inglewood, CA

Height: 6’2″ Weight: 185lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8544
National Comp: 1,040
S-Position: 81
St-CA: 90
|***Joined 05/04/2022

Justin Johnson plans to be a potentially bigger safety, and he has great range in his covering skills and good all-around skills for reacting and attacking the football. He plays fast and physically, he doesn’t shy away from contact, even if that means running downhill and providing running support.

Jackson Holman ★★★

wide receiver, Mission Viejo High School – Mission Viejo, CA

Height: 6’3″ Weight: 200lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8517
National Comp: 1,085
Pos WR: 148
St-CA: 95
|***Joined 02/07/2022

Jackson Holman comes to Tucson as a physically gifted player who should be a great threat for the Wildcats. His height helps solve some of the Arizona red-zone issues they had last season. He is fast and runs well, and his large frame allows him to resist contact. Jackson can play either tight end or receiver for the Cats.

Tapaatoutai Rhinoceros ★★★

TO, Bishop Alemany School – Mission Hills, CA

Height: 6’5″ Weight: 280lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8478
National Comp: 1,150
Pos OT: 101
St-CA: 106
|***Joined 04/18/2022

Rhino is a kid who is about to take a potentially big leap both physically and athletically this year. He currently stands at an impressive 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds (according to his 247Sports profile), and he’s the perfect size for an offensive tackle.

Rhino plays with a lot of energy and has an excellent drive for an attacking tackle. He plays fast and physically and excels in running and blocking passes. Overall, he’s a great addition to the offensive line.

Dominique Lolesio ★★★

DL, Long Beach Poly High School – Long Beach, CA

Height: 6’4″ Weight: 230lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8433
National Comp: 1,228
Pos DL: 137
St-CA: 120
|***Joined 08/06/2022

A dominant and aggressive passing passer, Dominic Lolesio uses his height and length well to clear blocks and create disruption in the backfield. He’s a kid with a big frame who can add more height, and already he’s playing with a high engine that should help the Wildcats tremendously.

Sean Brown ★★★

Athlete, Simi Valley High School – Simi Valley, CA

Height: 6’3″ Weight: 195lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8417
National Comp: 1,237
Position ATH: 114
St-CA: 121
|***Joined 06/20/2022

Sean Brown is a long, athletic and physical player with excellent motor skills and strong high school instincts. He reads the ball well and reacts well, and shows great fluidity and flexibility during breaks in football.

His addition brings depth and talent to the Wildcats secondary!

Kamuela Kaaihue ★★★

Linebacker, President Theodore Roosevelt High School – Honolulu, HI

Height: 6’2″ Weight: 210lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8361
National Comp: 1,315
LB Pos: 107
St-HI: 8
|***Joined 08/06/2022

A long, athletic player who uses his height well, Kamuela will likely be used more as a hybrid outside linebacker/edge rusher in defense of defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen. Overall, he is the No. 107 ranked linebacker and No. 8 player overall at Hawaii State. His addition gives more depth to the Wildcats linebacker squad.

Julien Savaiinaea ★★★

Edge, St. Louis High School – Honolulu, HI

Height: 6’3″ Weight: 241lbs |
247 Sports composite: 0.8359
Nat Comp: 1,316
Pos EDGE: 104
St-HI: 9
|***Joined 06/15/2022

The younger brother of current Wildcat Jonah, like his older brother, Julian was a bit of an under-the-radar rookie. Just like his brother, Julian is a strong and explosive player with great motor skills and strong instincts. He has a good first step, doubled mostly in a four or five technique on defense, and he uses his hands well to generate leverage.

Tylen Gonzalez – N/A

Athlete, Carlsbad School – Carlsbad, New Mexico

Height: 6’6″ Weight: 250lbs |
247Sport Composite: N/A
Natl Comp: N/A
Position ATH: N/A
St-NM: N/A
|***Joined 06/05/2022

Another dual-sport athlete, not much is known about Tylen Gonzalez and that certainly seems to be reflected in his unranking from several of the major scouting sites; however, that will likely change soon as Tylen plans to be a three-star athlete with more offers to come.

Tylen is one hell of an athlete who already has a big frame that can add more weight and still be efficient. Look for him to probably play along the offensive line; however, he could very well play in defense as well.
