The Villanova women’s lacrosse team will face the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday afternoon in their first BIG EAST conference game of the season. Coming off a midweek loss to No. 8 Maryland, the Hoyas come in at 5-6, while the Wildcats sit at 4-7, last playing a weekend ago.
Villanova faced Georgetown 22 times prior to this encounter, with the all-time series favoring the Hoyas, who won 19 of those games. Georgetown swept the ‘Cats in their weekend series during the 2021 season.
Villanova enters its first BIG EAST conference game looking to win back-to-back games for the first time this season. Last Saturday against rookie UC Davis Sydney Dads scored a career-high five goals, winning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for his performance. In the contest, second year Marie-Kate Conniff also reached career highs in turnovers (three) and ground balls (five). Senior Caroline Curnell appear to remain dominant in the draw circle, currently averaging the 10th most draws per game in the country at 7.80. Classmate Alexa Moro has been solid in goal for Villanova, as she has the most saves (102) and the second most saves per game (9.27) in the GRAND EAST.
For the visiting Hoyas, they will be looking to get back into the win column, after back-to-back losses. Leading the team in scoring are a senior duo of Ali Diamond and Annabelle Albert. The two have totaled 18 goals each in 11 games, while Diamond has had nine assists this season to lead the team. Graduate student defender LizaBanks Campanga will be looking to slow down Villanova’s draw dominance, registering 77 draw checks at this point. On defense, Melissa Massimino leads Georgetown with 22 turnovers caused.
Georgetown ranks second in the conference in shots (33.7) and shots on goal (24.2) per game.
